| | omg! | ] | I got my JLPT results today and I passed 1kyuu!
I'm so shocked. I took the test with no intention of actually passing, but that's so cool that I can say that I passed 1kyuu on my first try. But it feels unfair saying that I have 1kyuu, because I guessed on half of the test and I only passed by 3%. My Japanese level is not 1kyuu level yet. I'm going to take the test again in July and aim for a higher score, maybe 80% this time. I need to study a lot more kanji. I only got a 53% on the kanji section of the test. My kanji ability is still only at a 6th grader's level. Having 1kyuu will make it a lot easier to get a job, but I need to have the actual skills to back up my certification. I have my JLPT study group tonight so I'll go and spend an hour or two studying kanji. >_<; |

1. What do you store in your medicine cabinet? I don't have a medicine cabinet, just the space under the sink. I have painkillers, razors, floss, deodorant, nail polish...lots of random stuff.
2. Do you shower at night, in the morning, or both? I prefer showering in the morning but I don't want to get up that early so I shower at night on school days.
3. Hot, warm, or cold showers? hot
4. Baths or showers? I've never a bath person, they don't do much for me
5. How often do you shave? I get lazy, especially in the winter. my legs only get shaved once or twice a week in the winter, before I'm going out or something.
6. Do you tweeze or wax your brows? I waxed them when I was in the US, but they don't have that here so I tweeze them now.
7. Do you use lotion post shower? What kind? I only moisturize my face - avon moisturizer.

| Tsuchiura Club Gold |

| | haven't slept yet | ] | I'm back from Tsuchiura but Tomo is on the phone so I can't go to bed yet. x_x
Club Gold was way better than I was expecting~ The one other time I went to Gold I didn't like the crowd at all - all teenage gals. But this time the crowd was great. I heard it was going to be all techno but they had euro playing too on the subfloor. :) The music selection overall was a little maniac. I was looking forward to the techno but it was maniac B-1 techno the whole night. x_x There was a little bit of We Love-kei and a little bit of oldies but otherwise mostly stuff I couldn't dance. The euro floor was good when they were playing saishin and 3jikei, but there were a lot of oldies too. They played some songs I never hear in clubs - Watch me Dancing, Energy Love. :0 oh and some of the transitions during techno were interesting - Salemming mixed into Get Up, Hard Body Baby mixed into Ice Doll(obvious one).
The Tsuchiura people were really nice. They were intrigued by gaijin who can dance para and came over to talk to us. I might go back to one of their regular nights because they were so welcoming. :)
and speaking of gaijin, omg halfway through the night a group of gaijin guys (Indian maybe?) came into the club and went right into the middle of the techno circle and started dancing around. x_x and all the Japanese people just acted as if they weren't there lol. It was like the Tom Green special when he's on the subway in Tokyo harassing people and they're pretending he's not there. ^^; One of the gaijin guys tried to hit on me but luckily Max was there to play the role of my boyfriend. ^^
and Max is a winner for stealing the Chozen poster from the women's bathroom XD |

| | Psychedelic Lover Best | ] | I climbed Mt. Fuji! I'm glad I did it, but I wouldn't want to do it again. Being at the top was great but getting there was a little traumatic. ^^; I'm hardly sore at all today miraculously (living on top of a giant hill is great training for mountain climbing). The last few hours before sunrise were miserable and it was kind of a freaky experience, but I'm glad I can say I made it to the top.
the long story.....
getting there... The others were driving to Fuji, but I was going to go by train and meet them at the 5th station. It was a long journey to Yamanashi from Chiba (where I spent the night), but I like trains and I got to ride some train lines I hadn't ridden before. ^^
Chuo-sen to Takao , change trains and take another Chuo-sen train to Otsuki , change to the Fuji Express line to Kawaguchiko
Fuji Express trains were so cute!==>

| | busy | ] | I'm climbing Mt. Fuji this weekend. D8
A bunch of ALTs are going this weekend, and I decided, what the heck, I should try it at least once. I'm probably going to be regretting it as I'm struggling up to the top, and when I'm sore the next day, but I hope it'll be worth it. :)
The others are renting a van and driving down from Iwaki Saturday morning, but I'm going to go to a super awesome techno event in Ibaraki Friday night, sleep a few hours, and then take the train to Yamanashi and meet them at the base of Fuji. We're going to start hiking around sunset, get to the top before dawn to watch the sunrise, then climb back down.
(I'm a little bit unhappy that no one bothered to tell me about the Fuji plans or make sure I was included so I had to ask to come along...but whatever)
wish me luck! |

| farming |

| | Red Hot Chili Peppers - Otherside | ] | I went farming yesterday. :) One of my school teachers invited me and another ALT to come cook dinner with her. She teaches cooking classes from time to time, and eats a diet of only natural foods. We drove out to her friend's farm, about 30 minutes outside of town. His farm is all organic. We went out to the fields and dug up potatos and picked snap beans. He also gave us lettuce and broccoli. But I got some gnat bites, never knew they were that nasty. :(
Then we drove down to a ryokan(Japanese inn) that he has on his land but which is no longer being used. It was a nice ryokan, with lots of windows looking out onto the gardens surrounding the buildings. There was even a tea room for a tea ceremony, with a floor level window for meditating on the nature outside. We used the kitchen there to cook dinner and ate dinner in one of the dining rooms.
Our dinner was really simple so I was surprised at first but it was good and filling. All we did was steam the potatos, and boil the beans and the broccoli. Then we just ate them like that, no salt or dressing or anything. But it was really good, really flavorful, totally different from what you buy at the store. I never knew how good snap beans were. Satou-san (the farmer) also brought some udon with sesame dressing and that topped off our meal.
Also, besides the food, getting to talk with Satou-san was really interesting. His way of life is really different from most people in this country. Japanese people nowadays are so concerned with what school you graduated from and how much you make a year, but Satou-san has no qualms about saying he didn't go to high school. And he doesn't see why he should feel embarassed about wearing work clothes when company comes over. And while most Japanese husbands try to apologize for their wives (sorry she can't cook, etc) he praises his wife and says that's something Japan could learn from other countries. He just seemed really at peace with his life and I thought it was really cool. I guess this is what you call a "rewarding cultural experience." :P |
